I Knew...

...that there was something different about this kid.

While we were in the doctor's waiting room the other day our attention was drawn to a very active little boy. He was throwing his toys at people, screaming, and running up and down the rows of chairs - ON the chairs. I tried to distract Sam but he just sat there, wide-eyed and watching.

I whispered, "Sam, he's being naughty, isn't he?"

"Yeah," Sam whispered back.

"You don't act like that, do you?" I asked.

"Mom," Sam said, looking at me seriously. "I don't even want to act like that."

I just couldn't be more amazed by this son of mine!

LOL. Hilarious. Was the mom letting the kid be a tornado??

Sam is well-behaved because you've made the effort and take the time to teach him manners. I have the same question as Karen, where was the kid's mother?

Yeah, the mom just looked really tired. As much as I kept thinking, "Do something!!" I'm trying to remember that I have NO IDEA what it's like to have a kid like that!

GW and I posted at the same time. Sam is Sam because he's Sam. I don't believe for a second that an ill-behaved child MUST have inattentive/bad parents. It is possible, sure, but I've met very few people who aren't just doing the best they can with their kids. Some kids can't be controlled. I just pray for their moms!

I understand what you’re saying, I also believe than some of a person’s character is inbred but I also have to disagree because Sam’s manners were not all cosmically learned. His behavior is a result of your on-going patient parenting.

I think you are both right. Aid is not Sam. Aid could easily be that kid. He is much more rambunxious(sp?) and stubborn and strong willed. But I would NOT let him be like that (at least without a fight) in the office. He would be in a time out. In fact he has thrown a temper tantrum in the office and he went into a time out. We've had to have one in Target too!

Aid is sweet. Very sweet. But sometimes he can be a bugger. And that's where I have to step in. But I have also seen you parent Sam and while Sam is very mellow and intelligent and thoughtful....every time he has even begun to act up you have intervened...immediately.

I also agree that as a mother I shouldn't just judge other mothers. We all do the best that we can. But you can bet your bottom (ha! I have always wanted to say that!) I'm not going down without a fight! LOL.

That mom will be me someday! Beckett is an angel for everyone, and then turns into an independent, stubborn, whining, pouting, willful 19-month-old when he's with Chad and I. I know some of those traits might serve him well in the future, but I'm already tired of the power struggles with him. You should be very amazed by Sam! (I'm amazed by Beckett too, but just out of patience other times!!)

That little boy could very well have been James. It never failed, the minute we left the house, he turned into an uncontrollable monster! We now know why he was like that, and my heart goes out to the Mom. I'm hoping they were at the Dr. to get some answers!
