Yesterday morning Eric got ready for work and came downstairs. Sam, Matilda, and I were waiting for him so we could say goodbye. After giving Eric a hug, Sam opened the door to the garage, reached up and pushed the button to open the garage door, and said, "Bye, Dad!"
Laughing, Eric asked if he could put on his shoes first. He put on his shoes and coat as Sam repeated, "Bye, Dad! Bye! Go people be better!"*
Eric and I were chatting about our plans for the day and we were not moving fast enough for Sam. Again throwing open the door, Sam pointed outside and cried, "Go for it, Dad!"
I can't imagine a more encouraging way to start the day!
*Eric is an RN. I don't know how to explain what he does to Sam, so I simply say that Dad helps people feel better. Sam seems very impressed by this.
