Sam is turning into a weird little dude. I don't know if it's being three, or being a boy, or just being Sam. It's getting to the point where I can't help but wonder what other people think when they meet him. It's like he is having a conversation separate from the one he is in.
Today we went to Wal-Mart. I had to stand at the pharmacy window for quite some time before I was helped. There was a long line of people behind me. Sam was squirreling around and somehow managed to slip and fall into the bottom of the cart.
"Sam!" I said, laughing. "What happened?"
"No, Mama," he said as he struggled to free himself. "I fine. I fine. I okay."
The pharmacist smiled at Sam over the counter. "How old are you?" she asked.
"S - A - M," he replied.
"He's spelling his name," I explained to the confused woman. "He's three."
"No!" Sam said angrily. "I am three!"
Good grief.
Finally, at the check-out, the woman in front of us smiled at Sam. "Do you have a new baby at your house?" she asked him.
"No," he said.
She looked confused, so I tried to encourage him. "Yes, we have a new baby!" I said.
The woman said, "Is your new baby a boy or a girl?"
Sam just stared at her. "Do you have a brother or a sister?" I prompted him.
"A brother," he said. "A baby brother."
It's amazing that I ever have any idea what he's talking about.

I think he's doing it on purpose! It's fun to confuse people and watch their expressions.
I was going to say, Sam isn't fooling any of us with this act!
