Oh, Good Grief.

I realized a few days ago that I was not going to be making Sam's birthday cake. I just ran out of time. I will be telling our guests (who will neither notice nor care) that I had too much to do with the baby and everything. That will be a lie. I was lazy and missed my chance.

So, going against everything I believe in, I had to get a store-bought birthday cake this afternoon. I told Sam we had to go get his cake, and he replied, "Oh, good! My Spongebob cake!"

Spongebob cake? What happened to the no-car train cake? Or even the no-train car cake? I don't even let Sam watch Spongebob. He has seen snippits in passing and has a Spongebob doll. Apparently that's enough for Sam to want an entire cake dedicated to the gross little character.

We went to the store and I saw a perfect cake. White with white frosting and decorated with balloons, just like the plates and napkins we bought yesterday. As I was lifting it into the cart Sam spotted a Spongebob cake. It was marble, too small, and garishly decorated with Spongebob characters.

So...did I act like a good mom (like my mom) and get the perfect cake that would make everyone happy? Or did I act like a good mom (like my sister) and buy a disgusting cake?

Here's a hint: I will not be allowing any pictures of the cake, and Sam is one happy little birthday boy.
