A few minutes before the hunt began Eric noticed that I had brought our smallest basket for Sam. He asked if we should go to the car and get the big one. I explained that as each child brought 12 eggs, each one shouldn't take any more than 12 eggs, so Sam's small basket was just fine.
I then overheard a few parents talking. One said the town grocery store and the church had each donated about 100 eggs. Well, that changed things. I dashed to the car and got Sam the big basket.
When the hunt started Sam didn't get too excited. He walked around the field, passing some eggs, picking up others and setting them in the bottom of his basket. Other kids around him were feverishly gathering eggs as fast as they could. After a few minutes, Sam said, "I'm done." We tried to talk him into looking some more but he just kept repeating, "I'm done."
We walked back to our car and I looked in Sam's huge basket. There weren't many eggs in there...in fact...I started counting...oh brother. Sam had picked up exactly 12 eggs.
Sam, you're a weird little dude, but no one can say you aren't fair.
Sam is on the left in the green sweatshirt. Eric is on the far right hiding eggs.
Pastor Pete and Larry the Puppet talked to the kids before the hunt began. Sam's little green hood was right down front!
Sam right before the hunt began, holding his huge basket and getting his game face on.
Methodically choosing his 12 eggs.
Why is the little kid in the green sweatshirt the only one out there without a parent? Whoops.

I still think that Sam is just messin' with your head.
What a beautiful day for an Easter Egg Hunt! I remember some Minnesota Easter weeks with snow.
He is brilliant Em. Really. I am constantly impressed.
How does he do it? Does it kind of freak you out sometimes how smart and aware he is?
