iSam

I have very clear memories of playing on our home computer 25 years ago. It (of course) was only a black and green screen. We had a box of floppy disks on the desk. Some of them were games that I was allowed to play. One of them was maroon, standing out from the rest of the black disks, and it was my favorite game - Gertrude's Secrets. My dad taught me how to play it. It was incredible.

Going forward just a few years, I visited Dad's work. There I saw a computer that could be manipulated by touching the screen. I was absolutely amazed by it. Dad was also the person who showed me the internet for the first time. He explained that I could talk to other people via his computer. Unbelievable!

My dad is now impressing a new generation with his knowledge of technology. Sam is obsessed with Grandpa Mark's iPhone. Grandpa downloaded a bunch of kid's games so Sam is always able to try something new. I've watched them sit for hours together playing with that phone. Sam has gotten so good at using it, he no longer needs help.

Here he is, just hanging out and playing a game. He is two years old and knows more about using that phone than I do. I don't know if I should be proud or worried!

(Happy Birthday, Katie!)

He looks like a teenager texting or something. Hilariously adorable.

I agree, Sam is so smart. I think we'll have to get used to being out of touch and having our kids show us things... Let Sam know that I'm having issues with my computer and when he has a chance I'd like to run it by him.
