Sam Is Watching

(It is difficult to clear one's head enough to blog after one has been up since 3 am listening to the smoke alarm at the top of one's vaulted ceiling chirp.)

Through Sam I have learned that there is very little difference between me laughing or crying. Both border on the hysterical and both always result in tears.

I recently started Weight Watchers in an attempt to lose the last of this baby weight. I'm annoyed about having to diet and so I'm making Eric do it with me. I've been explaining the points to him and he's been a really good sport about following the program.

We've both been doing well, which means we've both been pretty hungry. Eric has been disgusted by the amount of points in the foods he likes. Yesterday afternoon he only had a few points left to work with and he was starving. We were standing in the kitchen and he was looking for something to eat.

"How many points are in peanut butter?" he asked me.

"Two tablespoons has five points," I replied.

Almost before I finished talking, Eric rolled his eyes up into his head and fell forward in a fake faint. It was amazing. One second he was standing in front of me and the next he was facedown on the floor. He fell flat on his face over the injustice of peanut butter's point value.

I immediately burst out laughing. I laughed and laughed (and am laughing out loud remembering it now). The fall just kept replaying in my head and I couldn't stop laughing. I couldn't stand up straight or catch my breath. I had tears running down my face and I still couldn't stop laughing.

Once again, Eric and I had forgotten we have little eyes watching us all the time. Sam, who had been sitting at the table doing a puzzle, had watched his dad fall flat on the floor and his mom become hysterical. As I started to get myself under control, I heard him saying, "Dad okay? Mom, you happy? Happy? You okay?"

Oh, the poor little guy. I assured him over and over that Dad was just being funny and that I was laughing because I was happy. Sam still looked skeptical.

From now on, Eric is going to have to save his comedic falls for when Sam is out of the room.

This made me laugh out loud too & then I had to read it to Brian which made me laugh harder! I can totally picture this all happening.

I once witnessed Eric do a full body-slam on a Culpepper jersey that was laying on the floor (apparently in disgrace.) It was shockingly funny and I'm laughing at this fake faint, too!

Hilarious! Congratulations for starting on Weight Watchers (and especially for getting Eric to do it with you). It really works!
