About a week ago Sam looked up from his toys and asked, "We go see Grandpa?" I told him we couldn't just then, but we would very soon.
"Go in the car?" Sam persisted. I again tried to explain that we would see Grandpa later.
Still not satisfied, Sam went to his toybox and pulled out his photo album. He flipped through the pages until he found a picture of my dad. He brought it to me, pointing at the picture, saying, "Go see Grandpa?" I assured him I knew who he was talking about, and again, we would see Grandpa another time.
I thought it was so sweet I had to call Grandpa Mark. Touched, he made plans to see Sam right away. Sam was thrilled and they had a nice playdate.
As with everything my kid does, basic repetition makes it go from cute to incredibly annoying. Yesterday Sam started asking to see Grandpa again. I answered him the first few times, and then decided to just ignore him. Determined, Sam went down to the office and found the picture we have of Grandpa Mark holding Sam when he was just born. He brought it to me, asking, "Grandpa? Car? We go see Grandpa?"
I spent the better part of yesterday afternoon being chased by a picture of my father. Finally I called Grandpa Mark and made plans to meet for lunch today. I'm hoping our date will tide Sam over for a while. In the meantime, I'm hiding all of our photos.
