Sweet Child Of Mine

Let me preface this by saying that I know I have bad taste. I like bad TV, poorly made movies, and cheesy music. There are so many songs that I consider to be favorites, but one is head and shoulders above the rest: Sweet Child Of Mine by Guns 'N Roses. The first few bars of that guitar intro thrills me every time I hear it. It is, and always will be, my favorite song of all time.

The only thing that bothered me about the song was Axl's screeching about her blue eyes. My eyes have never been anything but brown and I wanted the song to be about me. Jackie and I were chatting one day near the end of my pregnancy, wondering what Matilda would look like. I said that I was pretty sure she'd have Eric's blue eyes. I explained that having a daughter with blue eyes would make up for two decades of loving a song that made me feel bad about my brown eyes.

Jackie looked at me like I was completely insane, but she knew better than to disagree with a huge pregnant woman. Crazily enough, my hormone-induced ramblings turned out to be correct! Sam has my brown eyes but Matilda's are definitely blue. I keep worrying that they will eventually turn brown but every day they get bluer and bluer.

She's got eyes of the bluest skies
As if they thought of rain
I hate to look into those eyes
And see an ounce of pain

I love it! I read this one to Brian which prompted him to break into his best Axl impersonation & we both started singing the song. I'll never hear it again without thinking of Matilda!
